Ev’rybody Loves You – Music by Richard Rodgers lyrics by Lorenz Hart

Music by Richard Rodgers lyrics by Lorenz Hart
Also known as “Ev’rybody Loves You (When You’re Asleep)”
Written for the musical “I’d Rather Be Right 1937” but dropped before the opening, even if it was not listed in the program during the out-of-town tryout it was performed at least a couple of times.
The song was dropped becuse the George S. Kaufman wanted the show to be more energetic and funny so he decided to cut all the non satyrical songs. “Have you met Miss Jones?” was the only love song in the production, and the only hit to emerge from the show.

Lyrics

I wonder what you’re dreaming while you’re sleeping.
I’ll never know.
You’ll never know.
Now at last the world cannot come peeping
Into the thoughts you call your own.
You close your eyes and you’re alone.
You’re in a world that’ s bright and new
And there is no one in it but you.

Refrain
Comfy and cozy,
All the world is rosy.
Ev’rybody loves you when you’re asleep.
Too late to start now
Taking things apart now.
Ev’rybody loves you when you’re asleep.
You forget
Your alphabet
When you’ve been counting sheep
Does my dreamer know troubles will keep?
Comfy and cozy
All the world is rosy.
Ev’rybody loves you
When you’re asleep.
